Location
Tucked away in the glorious countryside of East Devon, this holiday offers everything that the idyllic rural retreat should. You’ll be staying within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by blissfully peaceful country vistas and just a short drive away from Colyton. Once known as ‘the most rebellious town in Devon,’ nowadays this is a tranquil spot where you can enjoy cream teas and a vintage tram ride by the River Coly.
Local attractions include the gorgeous, quintessentially British surrounding villages and towns — like Honiton, famous for its lace and pottery — and Jurassic Coast beaches, as well as the general splendour of the area’s rolling hills and long winding rivers.
Accommodation — New for 2024
Once the dairy barn on a bustling Devon farm, Hill View is aptly named for its exquisite views out over the undulating green countryside that surrounds it. It’s a homey blend of rustic charm and modern conveniences, with a warm, bright, and roomy shared living area that opens out onto a wide lawn via French doors. In colder weather, the cosy glow of the double-sided wood-burning stove can be enjoyed both from the sofas and from the dining table.
The bedrooms are light and fresh, with charming accents that hark back to the building’s original function as a milking shed. One bedroom is on the ground floor and contains an ensuite wetroom; the three on the first floor are accessed by a small staircase of four steps and contain ensuite shower rooms, in which the showers may need to be accessed by a small step. All rooms are ‘zip and link’, meaning the beds can be made up as either two Twins or one King.

Activities
In this popular holiday destination there’s lots to enjoy, from soaking up the beautiful countryside views to cruising over the waves along the coast. For lovers of nature, Bicton Park Botanical Gardens contains everything from a mini-golf course to a Tropical House, while a peaceful afternoon at the nearby Donkey Sanctuary is the perfect chance to befriend an animal well known for being gentle and playful by nature. Finally, one mustn’t forget to indulge in the all-important Devon cream tea — traditionally cream before jam in this part of England!
