A practical 3-hour workshop for health, care and community professionals
This practical 3-hour workshop introduces the principles behind CST alongside the growing evidence around the benefits of connecting with nature. You’ll explore how simple, meaningful nature-based activities can be incorporated into group sessions and adapted for different care, health and community settings.
The session is designed to give you practical ideas that you can take away and use in your own setting, helping you create engaging opportunities for communication, social connection and wellbeing.
What will the session cover?
During the workshop, you’ll:
- Explore the principles and theory behind Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
- Consider the growing evidence around nature connection and dementia
- Discover how CST principles can be adapted through nature-based activities and experiences
- Explore practical, ready-to-use activities suitable for a range of settings
- Consider how activities can be adapted to different abilities, interests and environments

Practical ideas you can use in your setting
This isn’t just a theory-based training session. You’ll have the opportunity to explore practical activities and ideas that can be incorporated into your own work.
Nature can provide a rich source of stimulation and conversation – from noticing seasonal changes and exploring plants and wildlife to using natural objects, sounds, smells and memories as prompts for discussion and interaction.
The activities can be adapted to suit different environments, whether you’re working in a care home, community setting, health service or other dementia support setting.
Who is the training for?
The session is suitable for professionals and practitioners who support people living with dementia, including:
- Care staff
- Activity coordinators
- Dementia leads
- Community practitioners
- Health professionals
- Other professionals working in dementia care and support
No specialist outdoor or horticultural knowledge is required.
What will you take away?
By the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of nature-based Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, practical activities to try in your own setting and ideas for creating meaningful opportunities for people living with dementia.
You’ll also gain inspiration for developing person-centred, strengths-based approaches that focus on people’s interests, abilities and relationships rather than what dementia has taken away.
