Our second Green Letter Day webinar with longstanding partner Freddie’s Flowers gave people living with dementia and their carers a calm, creative morning of flower arranging and sensory connection from the comfort of their home.
In January 2026, one of our longstanding partners, Freddie’s Flowers, hosted our second online flower arranging webinar as part of our Green Letter Days programme. The session was designed for people living with dementia and their carers to enjoy from home, with flowers and a vase sent out in advance. A total of 75 people joined online, with many taking part alongside a loved one, bringing the total to up to 150.
The event was designed to be a relaxed get-together, hosted by Freddie, with help from teams at Freddie’s Flowers and Dementia Adventure. We encourage participants to ask questions and share their personal stories and moments in the Zoom chat – which they did. It was fantastic.

What made the morning so special was Freddie himself. He gently guided everyone through creating their arrangement step by step, sharing how to trim stems properly, how to help the flowers sit beautifully in the vase, and simple techniques to get the best from each bloom.
Participants especially enjoyed learning new skills, including how to open up roses and create different effects with tulips. Many also said they loved hearing more about the flowers as they arranged them.
For people living with dementia, flower arranging can be about much more than making something beautiful. When getting outside is harder than it used to be, flowers can bring a little bit of nature indoors. Their colours, textures and scents can stimulate the senses in a gentle, enjoyable way and help spark memories, stories and conversation.
The event evaluation found that sensory engagement and reminiscence were key outcomes, with participants describing how touching, smelling, and arranging the flowers encouraged meaningful connection and brought back memories.
The webinar also had a clear positive impact on well-being. Feedback showed that 96% of respondents felt more positive after the session, 75% felt less stressed, 77% felt less isolated, and 68% felt more encouraged in their caring role. Participants spoke about the value of doing something calming and creative together, with one person saying the session gave them “an hour of calm, connection and care,” while another said, “That hour made a difference in my whole week.”
Above all, the event showed how simple activities can make a real difference. From shared laughter and new skills to quiet moments of pride and reflection, this webinar brought people together across England, Wales and Scotland for a warm, welcoming experience at home. We’re incredibly grateful to Freddie’s Flowers for their continued generosity and partnership in helping create more moments of joy, connection and happiness for people living with dementia and those who care for them.
