£30,000 funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation will help more people living with dementia enjoy adventure, connection and time together
We’re delighted to announce that Dementia Adventure has received £30,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation, supporting our work to help more people living with dementia experience the benefits of getting outdoors, trying new things and spending meaningful time with the people who matter to them.
For many people living with dementia, opportunities to enjoy a holiday, take part in a day out or simply explore somewhere new can become more difficult. Practical challenges, reduced confidence and concerns about how others might respond can all make getting out and about feel daunting.
Our supported holidays and days out are designed to help overcome some of those barriers.
With the support of the Garfield Weston Foundation, we can create more opportunities for people living with dementia to enjoy experiences away from the everyday challenges of the condition, with the reassurance of experienced support.

Creating opportunities to connect
At the heart of what we do is connection.
Our holidays and activities give people the opportunity to spend quality time with partners, family members and friends, while also meeting other people who understand what it can be like to live with dementia.
For some, it can be a chance to rediscover shared interests or try something they hadn’t thought possible. For others, it’s simply about having time together in a different environment, creating new memories and enjoying each other’s company.
Getting outdoors is an important part of this too. Whether it’s exploring the countryside, enjoying a walk, experiencing nature or taking part in an outdoor activity, being outside can provide opportunities for movement, conversation, discovery and enjoyment.
Making a difference to families
Dementia affects the whole family, and the impact can extend far beyond the person diagnosed.
A supported holiday can give families a chance to step away from some of the practical and emotional challenges of everyday life and focus on being together.
It can also help people regain confidence and see what they can still do, rather than focusing solely on the things that may have become more difficult.

The £30,000 grant will help us provide more of these opportunities and ensure that more people living with dementia and their families can benefit from the experiences, connections and memories that our programmes offer.
Thank you to the Garfield Weston Foundation
The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded grant-maker supporting charities across the UK that make a positive difference within their communities.
Established by W. Garfield Weston in 1958, the Foundation has awarded nearly £1.7 billion in grants since its establishment. In the financial year 2024–25 alone, it awarded almost £130 million to 2,967 charities.

We are incredibly grateful to the Foundation for supporting Dementia Adventure with this £30,000 grant.
Their investment will translate into something very tangible: more opportunities for people living with dementia to get outdoors, experience adventure, spend time with those they love, connect with others and make positive memories.
And that’s what this funding is ultimately about – helping people living with dementia and their families to continue to live well, together.
