The legacy that you leave in your will can make a huge difference, to your family, your friends and to causes that are close to your heart.
There are over 950,000 people living with dementia in the UK. Until a cure is found we need ways to live better with dementia, slow its progress and reduce the risk of developing the condition. There is compelling evidence that shows people with dementia engaging in nature based activities exhibit increased and sustained levels of health, well-being and quality of life. Similarly there is evidence which suggests that people who regularly adopt healthy lifestyle practices such as exercise and regular outdoor activity can significantly reduce the risk of developing dementia in the future.
Dementia Adventure help people living with dementia to live more active and fulfilled lives, by supporting them to get outdoors and experience the benefits of nature. Since 2009 we have trained over 17,000 individuals and organised well over 100 supported dementia holidays – making a huge difference to people with dementia and their carers. But we’re not stopping there. We want to help more people and for that we need your support.
By leaving a donation to Dementia Adventure in your will you will be helping to ensure our work brings happiness to individuals, couples and families. It doesn’t have to be a huge amount of money – every penny counts towards the work we do.
Norma Hall, recently contacted Dementia Adventure as she wanted to leave a gift in her will. She was inspired by the work we do, and wanted to help more people to benefit. She says:
“Nearly all of us will probably be affected by some sort of dementia. It’s brilliant what Dementia Adventure are doing – supporting people with dementia to keep active and get outdoors. I hope a donation in my will brings adventure and fulfilment to the lives of more people with dementia in the future.”
Writing or amending a Will does not need to be difficult or expensive and it is the best way to protect your family and give you peace of mind. A gift to Dementia Adventure would be taken out of your estate before Inheritance Tax is assessed. By making a bequest you could possibly reduce or avoid tax and you will be assured that you are making a difference in the lives of others. It’s important to seek professional advice from a solicitor or financial advisor when making or amending a will. They will help you with the correct wording for a legacy.
“Making a Will is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It’s a lot more affordable and straightforward than you think and by having your Will professionally written, you ensure everything is covered and arranged as you would like. Moreover, a professionally drafted Will should avoid a number of legal pitfalls which can either lead to legal claims against your estate or unforeseen tax complications” – Adrian Poole, Partner, Porter Dodson and Trustee of Dementia Adventure
